RSP's Neupane wins Kathmandu Constituency No. 1 with 15,455 votes

KATHMANDU: Ranju Darshana Neupane of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has won the House of Representatives election for Kathmandu Constituency No. 1, receiving 15,455 votes, Chief Election Officer Churaman Khadka said.

The 30‑year‑old Neupane surpassed her closest competitor, Nepali Congress candidate Prabal Thapa Chhetri, by a margin of 9,091 votes. Thapa Chhetri received 6,364 votes.

In the constituency, 29,774 votes were cast; 29,082 were valid, and 692 were invalid.

Neupane joined the RSP from Bibekshil Sajha Party before the election. Previously, in the election of 2074 BS, Neupane, who was 21 years old at the time, was one of the contenders for the mayoral post of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and she also served as general secretary of the Bibekshil Sajha Party.

She holds a master’s degree in political science and counselling psychology. A strong campaigner against violence towards women, Neupane has worked as a teacher at Thames College and as a guest lecturer at Nicholson International College, specialising in social education.

She is recognised as a social activist and is a staunch advocate for the right to information, freedom of expression and a defender of civil rights.
