KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has called on everyone to contribute from their respective fields to the work of ending all forms of violence, discrimination and oppression against women.
Extending his best wishes on the occasion of the 116th International Women's Day today, he said that if women, who constitute more than half of the population, are empowered, the entire family, society and the nation will move forward on the path to prosperity. He added: "Equal access for women to every sector of the state, such as education, health, employment, policy‑making and decision‑making processes, and politics, should be ensured to fulfil the objective of gender equality and women's empowerment."
President Paudel said in his message that the day should provide more energy, enthusiasm and inspiration to everyone to work with full sensitivity towards realising the rights, entitlements, equality, empowerment and respect for women.
March 8 is celebrated as International Women's Day every year, and this year the day is being observed with the slogan set by the United Nations: 'Rights, Justice and Action: For All Women and Girls'.
