KATHMANDU: The counting of votes cast under the proportional representation (PR) system for the House of Representatives elections is underway, with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leading by a wide margin.
As of 5:00 pm today, the RSP, which has so far won 125 seats, is leading the PR vote count. Out of a total of 9,360,769 votes counted so far, the party has secured 4,520,370 votes.
The Nepali Congress (NC) has 1,514,483 votes, the CPN (UML) garnered 1,267,049, and the Nepali Communist Party received 680,185. The Shram Sanskriti Party has collected 323,832, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party achieved 300,160 votes.
According to Election Commission updates, the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal secured 146,221 votes, the Rastriya Pariwartan Party 144,936 and the Janamat Party 65,795.
In the direct electoral counts, the NC has been elected to 18 seats, the CPN (UML) to eight, the Nepali Communist Party to seven, Shram Sanskriti to three, and the RPP and an independent candidate one each.
The vote counts show the RSP, NC and UML are leading in one constituency each: the RSP in Gorkha constituency no. 1, the NC in Ilam constituency no. 1, and the UML in Sankhuwasabha constituency no. 1.
