ECN finalises PR vote count for HoR

KATHMANDU: The counting of votes under the proportional representation system for the House of Representatives (HoR) election held on March 5 has been finalised, the Election Commission said.

With the recent completion of counting in Gorkha 1 and Ilam 1, the overall tally for proportional representation has concluded, Kul Bahadur GC, Assistant Spokesperson of the Election Commission, said.

He said the process of transferring details from the relevant election officer’s office to the commission is still underway following the completion of the counting. The commission has initiated groundwork to determine the allocation of seats for political parties under the PR system, and reports indicate this process is expected to conclude in a few days.

The Election Commission reported that a total of 10,798,426 votes have been counted for the proportional election. Among these, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is leading with 5,163,873 votes. The Nepali Congress has garnered 1,756,735 votes, while the CPN (UML) has received 1,453,408 votes. The Nepali Communist Party has 810,228 votes, the Shram Sanskriti Party has 385,802 votes, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has 330,336 votes.

Other parties have not met the required threshold of three per cent of the total valid votes cast under the PR system under the prevailing law.
