Remittance inflows rise 39.8 pc to Rs 1,261bn in seven months: NRB

KATHMANDU: Remittance inflows rose 39.8% to Rs 1,261.01 billion in the first seven months of fiscal year 2025/26.

The growth compares with 7.5% in the corresponding period of the previous year, the macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Wednesday said.

During mid‑January to mid‑February (Magh month), remittance inflows stood at Rs 198.08 billion, up from Rs 137.50 billion in the same month a year earlier.

In US dollar terms, remittance inflows increased 33.0% to $8.86 billion in the review period, compared with a rise of 5.5% a year earlier.

Net secondary income (net transfer) reached Rs 1,384.27 billion in the review period, up from Rs 986.34 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The number of Nepali workers taking first‑time approval for foreign employment stood at 245,153, while approvals for renewed entry numbered 227,424 in the review period. In the same period of the previous year, first‑time approvals were 274,662 and renewals were 190,886.
