Current account surplus reaches over Rs 493bn, BOP at over Rs 572bn in seven months

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s current account posted a surplus of Rs 493.78 billion in the first seven months of fiscal year 2025/26, according to the macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Wednesday.

The surplus was Rs 184.14 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. In US dollar terms, the current account registered a surplus of $3.47 billion in the review period compared to $1.37 billion a year earlier.

In the review period, net capital transfer stood at Rs 11.43 billion, up from Rs 5.83 billion in the same period of the previous year. Foreign direct investment (equity only) inflows amounted to Rs 10.22 billion during the review period compared to Rs 7.43 billion a year ago.

The balance of payments (BoP) recorded a surplus of Rs 572.73 billion in the review period against a surplus of Rs 284.41 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year. In US dollar terms, the BoP surplus stood at $4.03 billion in the review period compared to $2.11 billion a year earlier.
