KATHMANDU: Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS) has urged employment providers to comply fully with minimum wage and social security provisions.

Issuing a statement today, the ministry instructed all concerned establishments, institutions and stakeholders to comply proactively with the laws and warned that action will be taken against those found to be denying facilities, including the minimum wage, in accordance with the law.

According to Clause 18(3) of the Labour Act, 2074 BS, a clear legal provision obliges employers to provide individuals engaged as trainees with facilities in a way that does not reduce social security benefits such as the minimum wage, sick leave, allowances, provident fund and insurance.

“The ministry has received complaints and grievances from health workers and nursing staff working as trainees in various hospitals and health institutions, teachers and staff of private and public schools, as well as individuals working in various other establishments, regarding not receiving the stated minimum wage and other benefits,” the statement read.

The ministry has noted that the issue has drawn its serious attention.
