GANDAKI: Annapurna Conservation Area has received an impressive number of foreign tourists at the start of the 2026 tourist season.

The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) said a total of 48,513 foreigners visited different destinations in the region. Visitors from SAARC countries stood at 32,020, while 16,493 were from other countries.

ACAP Chief Dr Rabin Kadariya said the number of tourists rose by 11,679 in March 2026 compared with the same month in 2025. "Records show that 40% of the total tourists arriving in Nepal visit the Annapurna region. The number of Indian nationals is the highest among the South Asian tourists here," Kadariya added.

The period from March to May is a key tourist season in Nepal. The number of domestic tourists in ACAP destinations is also on the rise owing to the upcoming Nepali New Year and the annual school holidays, making this the best season for trekkers.

Annapurna Base Camp (popularly known as ABC), Mt Mardi, Ghandruk, Tilicho Lake, Thorong La Pass, Upper Mustang, Ghorepani, Poon Hill and other sites in the ACAP are the main attractions for visitors.

The ACAP covers 7,600 square kilometres and comprises 15 local levels across Kaski, Lamjung, Manang, Myagdi and Mustang districts.

ACAP is regarded as one of the world's best trekking destinations for its astounding natural beauty, rich biodiversity, mountain life and vibrant culture and civilisation.
