KATHMANDU: South Asian Obesity Forum (SOF) is set to organise its 2nd International Obesity Congress in Kathmandu on April 11.

The congress will bring together leading experts, clinicians and researchers to address the growing challenge of obesity in South Asia and globally, the forum said in a press release.

The forum said the event will host 40 international faculty members, about 150 international delegates and roughly 300 national delegates from across Nepal, making it one of the largest regional gatherings focused on obesity and metabolic health.

Speakers from multiple countries will discuss the rapid rise of obesity and its related complications, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease and hormonal disorders. The meeting aims to highlight obesity as a complex and chronic disease that requires greater awareness, early prevention and comprehensive treatment strategies.

The scientific programme will feature discussions on new advances in obesity management, including emerging medications, lifestyle interventions, metabolic health research and regional challenges specific to South Asian populations.

The SOF, a collaborative network of experts from eight South Asian countries, works under the theme 'United Against Obesity' to promote research, education and public awareness across the region.

Through the congress, the forum hopes to strengthen regional collaboration, scientific exchange and policy dialogue to tackle what it calls one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time.
