KATHMANDU: The Nepali embassy in Bangkok has rescued 46 Nepalis from Cambodia and returned them to Nepal.
The group were rescued after information emerged that they were being used for illegal work after reaching Cambodia through various means.
The embassy said the operation was carried out with the help of the Cambodian government and that all the rescued individuals have now been sent back to Nepal.
According to the embassy, large numbers of Nepalis travelled to Cambodia in recent years, hoping for attractive employment opportunities: 101 in 2021, 1,977 in 2022, 2,940 in 2023, 6,404 in 2024 and 9,676 in 2025.
The embassy has urged people not to travel to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar or Thailand without obtaining a labour permit. It warned that travelling without proper documentation increases the risk of exploitation and illegal work.
