KATHMANDU: Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project-5, a 110-megawatt scheme, is to be built on Dudhkoshi River in Solukhumbu District.
As proposed by the developer, the project will be located in wards Nos. 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 of Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality. The Department of Electricity Development has already granted approval to Independent Power Company Nepal to make this a semi-reservoir-based project.
The environmental impact assessment report for the run-of-river design was already completed, but a supplementary environmental impact assessment for the semi-reservoir-based project is also being prepared, it is said. To advance the scheme, more than 2,450 trees from a community forest should be cleared.
Once completed, the power generated by the project will be connected to the New Khimti substation at Devitar, Dolakha district.
The total cost of the project is estimated at more than Rs 19 billion, and it will be completed in five years, the developer said.
