MUSTANG: Visitor numbers in Mustang district have risen after the Dashain festival, the District Police Office (DPO) said.
The Mustang DPO recorded 7,846 visitors on Thursday and Friday following the festival.
On the first day after Dashain tika, 3,033 people entered Mustang on Thursday, and 4,813 domestic and foreign tourists arrived the following day.
The earlier downturn in arrivals followed severe inundation linked to Rasuwa’s Bhotekoshi floods, heavy rainfall and other monsoon-related disasters, which left the main Beni-Jomsom route into Mustang completely blocked by landslides and riverbank erosion, according to the DPO.
Police Inspector Ishwar Mahat, information officer at Mustang DPO, said arrivals via the Beni-Jomsom corridor had grown after Dashain. He said that between Ghatasthapana and Vijaya Dashami, 5,663 visitors entered Mustang by that route, of whom 3,738 were male and 1,925 female.
The DPO said 4,409 of those arrivals were international tourists.
