KARNALI: Ujyalo Nepal Party Chairperson Kul Man Ghising has demanded that the government withdraw its recent decision to raise the prices of petroleum products and provide a special subsidy on fuel for the people of Karnali.

Speaking at a province-level meeting of party cadres in Karnali on Monday, Ghising said subsidised fuel is necessary because life in Karnali is already expensive owing to its geographical features and remoteness. "Life in Karnali is already expensive due to its geographical features and remoteness. That's why fuel should be supplied here at subsidised prices to ease public movement and to promote tourism," the former minister stressed.

He pointed out that Nepal's closest neighbour, India, has not yet raised the prices of petroleum products despite price hikes in the international market, and urged the government to take measures to reduce the economic burden of rising prices on citizens.

Ghising also pledged his support to the current government to enable an atmosphere in which it can function smoothly.

Recalling his time in leadership at Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and in government, Ghising noted that an investment of around Rs 35 billion was secured for electrification and transmission lines in the districts of Karnali Province. Work on a 132 kV transmission line is currently underway up to Jumla, he added.

Commenting on his party's defeat in the recent House of Representatives (HoR) elections, Ghising said his party had limited time to reach out to voters after the party was established. He expressed confidence that the party would emerge as a major force in the next elections, with its organisation at the grassroots.
