KATHMANDU: The Government of the Czech Republic has formally congratulated Dr Shisir Khanal on his appointment as Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs. The move signals a boost to diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The message of goodwill was sent by Petr Macinka, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, and was conveyed via the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi. The embassy said the communication underlined the importance of continued cooperation and mutual respect.

The Embassy of Nepal confirmed the message has been delivered to the relevant authorities. Embassy officials said they valued the recognition and support from the Czech leadership and viewed it as an opportunity to deepen existing ties, adding that Nepal remained committed to working closely with the Czech Republic on matters of mutual interest and global importance.

In a statement acknowledging the message, the Honorary Consul-General of the Czech Republic to Nepal, Vishnu Kumar Agarwal, emphasised its significance for bilateral relations. He said, "We warmly appreciate the congratulatory message extended by Petr Macinka to Dr Shisir Khanal on his appointment as Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs. This gesture reflects the excellent state of the bilateral relationship between Nepal and the Czech Republic, which has been built on mutual respect and shared interest."

Diplomatic communications of this nature help maintain international partnerships and can open doors for deeper collaboration in trade, tourism, education and cultural exchange.

The two countries have a history of friendly relations, which this exchange further reinforces. Agarwal, who has served as Honorary Consul-General since 2010 and is managing director of MAW Group of Companies, the distributor of the Czech automotive brand Škoda, expressed his hope that ties will continue to strengthen, creating more opportunities for partnership and shared growth.
