NAIMA urges procedural fairness, sensitivity in Shekhar Golchha case

KATHMANDU: Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) has called for procedural fairness and sensitivity in the handling of recent developments involving senior industrialist and entrepreneur Shekhar Golchha.

In a statement, NAIMA said Golchha — an immediate past president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and board member of NAIMA — should be given an adequate opportunity to present explanations before conclusions are drawn or punitive measures taken. The association urged authorities to adopt procedural clarity, balance and proper discretion to strengthen public trust in institutions.

NAIMA highlighted the private sector’s role in the national economy, noting that industry and business contribute significantly to job creation, revenue collection and overall economic activity. The association said the state should properly acknowledge these contributions and send behavioural and policy-related messages that maintain private sector morale, build trust, and support continued entrepreneurship.

Reiterating its commitment to the rule of law, transparency and fairness, NAIMA said investigations must be impartial and fact-based, and that necessary action should be taken against anyone who violates the law. At the same time, the association warned that reaching conclusions or taking harsh measures without sufficient evidence could undermine confidence in the system and urged authorities to exercise appropriate sensitivity.
