DHUNCHE: Goods worth Rs 31.3 billion have been imported through Rasuwagadhi customs point during the first nine months of current fiscal year 2025/26.

Tulasi Prasad Bhattarai, chief of the Rasuwagadhi Customs Office, said the evaluation of those imports generated Rs 6.42 billion in revenue over the nine months. He added that trade continues at the border despite challenging geography and natural barriers.

Rasuwagadhi serves as a crucial centre for Nepal-China trade. The customs office said imports through the point included roll-cloth, ready-made garments, electric vehicles, construction materials for hydropower and infrastructure projects, industrial raw materials, machinery components and equipment for Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhesh Expressway Road Project. A large volume of apples, garlic, milled products and other edible items are also brought in via the border.

Exports from Nepal to China through Rasuwagadhi totalled approximately Rs 6.5 million, comprising handicraft items, traditional Nepali attire, bamboo beads, packed dry grass used for rice in the Tibetan region, rice and biscuits. The customs office noted that, despite limited production capacity, demand for Nepali goods in export markets is rising.

Trade at the crossing was significantly disrupted after the Miteri Bridge was destroyed by severe flooding in Lhendekhola on July 8, 2025. Regular import–export operations resumed on December 2, 2025, following delays in the bridge’s reconstruction.
