KATHMANDU: Department of Tourism (DoT) has said it will take action if an ‘overnight‑stay’ package at Everest Base Camp is sold.

In a notice issued today, Section Officer Prakash Pokharel said the DOT’s attention had been drawn to complaints that packages offering an overnight stay at Everest Base Camp had been advertised.

The notice said regulations prohibit anyone other than members of an expedition team, expedition leaders, mountain guides, high‑altitude workers, base‑camp staff and local workers from staying in base camps.

Pokharel requested that work be carried out in accordance with the legal provisions of the Mountaineering Regulations and warned that action would be taken under existing laws if anyone were found to be involved in activities contravening those provisions.
