KATHMANDU: Global Compact Nepal (GCN), in partnership with Fonepay, held a digital financial literacy session for women workers at Formation Carpets in Lalitpur on Monday. The event aimed to increase safe and responsible use of mobile payment tools among employees with limited prior access to financial and digital education.
About 30 participants from Formation Carpets attended, alongside representatives from Fonepay and Global Compact Nepal. Formation Carpets and F1Soft Group, the parent company of Fonepay, are members of GCN and took part in the initiative as part of their corporate social responsibility activities.
Trainers from Fonepay led practical demonstrations on mobile wallets, QR payments and secure transaction practices. The session covered common online scams and financial risks, and provided clear dos and don’ts to help workers protect themselves when using digital services.
Presenters used Nepali-language explanations, visual demonstrations and real-life examples, and included a question-and-answer segment to ensure participants could follow along regardless of their prior exposure to technology.

Organisers said the training sought to improve participants’ confidence in carrying out digital transactions independently and to reduce vulnerability to online fraud. The programme also aimed to support broader development goals by promoting women’s economic participation and widening access to digital financial systems in the carpet industry.
The session concluded with an open discussion in which participants shared experiences and raised concerns about digital financial services.
GCN expect the training to lead to greater awareness of digital tools and safer financial behaviour among the workers.
