KATHMANDU: Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has issued a forecast for today, warning of generally cloudy conditions across Nepal and scattered precipitation in several regions.

MFD said moderate rainfall or snowfall, accompanied by thunder, lightning and hail, is likely at a few places in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as in the remaining Himalayan and hilly areas. A few locations in the Tarai of Koshi and Bagmati provinces and in Madhesh Province may also experience similar activity.

The MFD warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly regions of Sudurpashchim and Gandaki provinces, advising residents to be alert to sudden downpours and localised flooding.

Gusty winds could affect a few places in the Tarai and hilly regions of Sudurpashchim, Karnali and Lumbini provinces, increasing the risk of falling branches and disruption to outdoor activities.

For tonight, MFD expects generally cloudy skies in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim and across the Himalayan and hilly regions, while other areas will be partly cloudy. Moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunder, lightning and hail may affect parts of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim and extend to Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki, with one or two Tarai locations also at risk.

Meteorological analysis from MFD indicates the country is under the influence of an upper-level western trough, local winds and a low-pressure area near eastern Nepal. Authorities and the public are advised to monitor local forecasts and take precautions in vulnerable areas.
