KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah reiterated today that the government remains committed to resolving border disputes with India through diplomatic channels.

Speaking in the House of Representatives, PM Shah said the government will pursue dialogue to settle outstanding issues and involve experts and historians in talks over the Nepal‑India border. “Efforts are made to resolve issues with the involvement of experts and historians in relation to the Nepal‑India border,” he said, adding that Nepal could also engage the British government on the matter.

The prime minister said a formal diplomatic note has already been sent to India concerning the use of Nepali territory in Lipulek, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani. He said both governments have agreed to hold talks involving historians, surveyors and people familiar with the respective lands. “On it, we have not only talked to India and China but also to the British government,” he added.

PM Shah urged the United Kingdom to pay attention to the matter, noting the dispute dates back to the period when British India left the subcontinent. “The border problem has lingered since the time British India left India, so we believe even the UK government should pay heed to it. All these things require resolution via diplomatic efforts,” he said.

Earlier in the session, CPN (UML) lawmaker Padma Aryal questioned a trade route reportedly opened by India and China through Nepali territory and sought a response from the prime minister.

In reply to NC lawmaker Arjun Narsingha KC, PM Shah said the government will review and act on investigation reports, including those from the National Human Rights Commission. He said all reports submitted so far regarding various movements and incidents will be studied and appropriate action taken.

The prime minister also said the government would accept most suggestions from lawmakers.
