KATHMANDU: The Diplomat Nepal has appointed veteran journalist Guna Raj Luitel as its Editor, the magazine announced on Friday.
Luitel has more than three decades of experience in journalism, media leadership and public affairs reporting, having held senior editorial roles at leading national outlets and worked on political journalism, governance reporting and public policy analysis.
The magazine said Luitel will lead efforts to expand its editorial reach and deepen engagement with diplomatic missions, international organisations, academic institutions, think tanks, development partners and private‑sector stakeholders. It added the publication will continue to uphold independent, balanced and responsible journalism and provide space for diverse viewpoints.
Luitel was welcomed at a ceremony at the Ambassadors Club office in Bishalnagar, Kathmandu, where Amb Dr Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, President of the Ambassadors Club Nepal and IRGDD, handed over editorial responsibilities. “It is our pleasure to entrust the editorship of The Diplomat Nepal to Guna Raj Luitel, the senior journalist with a wide range of experience in Nepal’s media fraternity, extensive editorial experience and understanding of both national and international affairs,” Dr Parajuli said. “I am confident that under his leadership, the magazine will continue to grow to further enhance Nepal’s soft power and diplomacy.”
“This is a great opportunity for me too,” Luitel said. “I am extremely happy to join the magazine as its editor and I will dedicate my experience and expertise to enrich the magazine further.”
The ceremony included a traditional shawl‑draping welcome for Luitel.
The Diplomat Nepal is the country’s first diplomatic magazine and a member of The Ambassadors Club. The publication covers foreign affairs, diplomacy, economic and trade relations, and sustainable development across digital and print platforms.
