MFD warns of cloudiness, scattered heavy rain as monsoon winds influence Nepal

KATHMANDU: Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has warned of widespread cloudiness and scattered moderate to heavy precipitation across several provinces as monsoon winds influence the country.

The MFD said Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, along with Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, are expected to have generally cloudy conditions today. Madhesh Province is likely to be partly cloudy. There is a possibility of moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the Hilly and Himalayan regions.

Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely at a few places in the Tarai region of Sudurpashchim and at a few places in the Tarai region of Lumbini. One or two places in Madhesh and in the Tarai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki may also see moderate rain with thunder and lightning. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki and in the Hilly and Tarai regions of Sudurpashchim.

For tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected across the country. The MFD warned of possible moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning at a few places in the Himalayan region. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is forecast at a few places in the Hilly and Tarai regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim. A few places in the Hilly region of Karnali Province may also be affected. One or two places in the Hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi and in Madhesh could see similar conditions. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Hilly and Tarai regions of Gandaki and Bagmati.

In its meteorological analysis, the MFD stated that the monsoon winds are currently influencing the entire country.
