KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, has urged researchers to take their work beyond the laboratory and engage directly with farmers' agro-plots.
Speaking at an orientation programme organised by Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC) for newly appointed senior scientists and scientists, the minister said the tangible impacts of agricultural research must be visible in farmers' production, productivity and livelihoods.
She emphasised that scientists' roles should not be confined to offices or laboratories. 'The research centres and farmers' agro-plot you reach are the live lab. It is your prime responsibility to explore scientific solutions by identifying problems of farmers,' Minister Chaudhary instructed.
The minister also called for stronger collaboration with provincial and local governments, universities, the private sector and farmers, warning that research yields little real benefit if results do not reach those who cultivate the land.
