KATHMANDU: Several organisations representing private schools have urged the government to reconsider its announcement to introduce a 3% equity tax in the education sector.
Private and Boarding Schools' Organization, Nepal (PABSON), the Higher Institutions and Secondary Schools' Association Nepal (HISSAN), National Private and Boarding Schools' Association Nepal (NPABSAN) and Association of Preschool Educators Nepal(APEN) made the appeal at a press conference in Kathmandu today.
They said the proposed tax was neither practical nor justifiable. The groups also demanded that the government guarantee educational loans of up to Rs 1 million for private schools and consult relevant stakeholders when deciding policy issues, including public holidays, the academic calendar and the Tenth Amendment to education regulations.
