KATHMANDU: Members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) have urged a thorough parliamentary discussion on e-passport printing amid public concern.
Speaking at the committee meeting on Tuesday, members said stakeholders should be summoned for rigorous scrutiny because the issue has provoked public unease. Some members, however, cautioned that the matter is sub judice as it is under consideration by the courts.
Lawmakers Barshaman Pun, Kranti Shikha Dhital, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi and Khusbu Oli spoke on the printing of e-passports. They said the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had received a complaint and found the matter problematic. Although irregularities were reported in passport printing, the extent of those irregularities has not been ascertained.
Committee chair Bharat Bahadur Khadka said the committee would decide on further action once the court delivers its verdict.
