KATHMANDU: The 13th meeting of the Joint Steering Committee (JSC) and the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Nepal-India power sector cooperation concluded in Pokhara on Wednesday. Delegates agreed to increase Nepal's power exports to India to 1,650 megawatts.
The JSC meeting was co‑chaired by Nepal’s Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi and India’s Secretary of the Ministry of Power Pankaj Agarwal.
Under the agreement on Combined Power Transfer, energy exports from Nepal to India will rise to 1,650 megawatts from the current 1,100 megawatts, while imports from India to Nepal will increase to 1,400 megawatts from 1,000 megawatts. The changes will use the Dhalkebar‑Mujjafurpur and the Dhalkebar‑Sitamadhi cross‑border transmission lines, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation said.

The meetings reviewed bilateral cooperation in the power sector, including the development of hydropower projects, power trade and transmission infrastructure.
Both sides discussed ways to expedite and facilitate the implementation of ongoing and planned power generation and transmission projects.
