Global IME Bank launches digital account opening through Nagarik app

KATHMANDU: Global IME Bank has launched a digital service that allows Nepali citizens to open bank accounts directly through the Nagarik app, the bank said on Friday. The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Nagarik app, is the first service of its kind in Nepal.

Under the service, Nepali citizens aged 18 and over who hold a National Identity Card and are registered on the Nagarik app can open personal savings accounts online. Users obtain a QR code by visiting [https://nagarik.gibl.com.np] and scanning it through the Nagarik app using their National ID details.

With prior consent from the registered user, Global IME Bank retrieves the necessary personal details securely from the Nagarik app, removing the need to re-enter information while maintaining customer privacy and data security. To activate and operate the newly opened account, customers must verify their identity at their nearest branch or complete Video KYC.

The bank said the service uses government digital infrastructure to expand its secure, simple and reliable digital banking offerings. It added that the collaboration with the Nagarik app will make account opening easier, more transparent and more tech-friendly, while delivering a modern banking experience.
