KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has warned of heavy rainfall in parts of the hilly and Himalayan areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces as monsoon winds continue to affect the country.
The MFD said the monsoon low-pressure trough is near its usual location, producing mostly clear conditions across the Tarai of Koshi Province while other regions are seeing variable weather. Moderate rain is being reported in parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Karnali, with isolated showers in Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
MFD expect moderate rain with thunder and lightning in the Himalayan and hilly regions, and in the Tarai of Bagmati, Gandaki, Koshi, Madhes, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim. Some locations in the hilly and Himalayan zones of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali face a risk of heavy downpours.
Weather conditions are likely to remain unstable overnight, with similar patterns persisting across the country, the Division said.
Authorities warned of an increased risk of landslides and other hazards linked to the expected heavy rainfall, noting potential disruption to daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism and transport.
Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to stay alert, avoid risky travel during severe weather and follow guidance from local authorities.
