MFD forecasts widespread rain, snowfall across Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has forecast widespread cloud cover and rainfall across Nepal as monsoon winds continue to influence atmospheric conditions.

The monsoon trough currently lies north of its usual location, bringing generally cloudy weather nationwide, according to meteorological analysis. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, and at a few places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.

In the southern plains, moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected at many places in the Tarai regions of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, and at a few places in Madhesh, Koshi and Bagmati provinces. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, and at one or two places in the Tarai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim.

Overnight, skies will remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning, together with snowfall, is likely at a few places in the mountainous and hilly areas. Night-time forecasts also indicate moderate rain with thunder and lightning at a few places in the Tarai regions of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim, and at a few places in the Tarai regions of Madhesh, Koshi and Bagmati.
