NDRRMA records 1,341 bodies recovered; 4,996 remain missing after Bhotekoshi floods

KATHMANDU: A total of 1,341 bodies have been recovered from various districts following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems on August 26, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

In its update as of 11:00 am on Sunday, NDRRMA said 4,996 people remained missing, including 589 foreign nationals and around 100 security personnel and employees.

Of the bodies recovered, 163 were found in Rasuwa, 195 in Nuwakot, 67 in Dhading, 362 in Chitwan, 74 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahu, 222 in Nawalparasi East and 220 in Nawalparasi West.

So far, 98 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families.

A total of 13,104 people have been rescued, while 6,075 injured people have received treatment. Another 3,652 people affected by the floods have been accommodated at 39 relief camps in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Kathmandu.

Authorities have mobilised 21,465 security personnel for search and rescue operations. They include 7,975 Nepal Police personnel, 9,287 Nepali Army personnel and 4,203 Armed Police Force, Nepal (APF Nepal) personnel.

Food and non-food relief supplies have been transported from Kathmandu to the affected areas in 83 trucks, 38 jeeps and nine helicopter flights. APF Nepal has also dispatched humanitarian aid to Rasuwa and Nuwakot through 173 flights.
