KATHMANDU: Foreign investors have demonstrated growing interest in Nepal's information technology (IT) sector, according to recent figures released by the Department of Industry.

Of the 1,116 projects registered in the fiscal year 2025/26, 727 were in the IT sector. The remaining commitments were distributed across other areas, including 227 in tourism, 71 in service-related fields, 63 in manufacturing, 18 in agriculture, four in energy, and two in infrastructure.

The department reported that total foreign investment pledges reached Rs 5.8 billion during the 2025/26 period. In comparison, around Rs 6 billion was committed for 842 projects in the 2024/25 fiscal year.

Addressing the distribution of investment across industries, the department's information officer, Suresh Dahal, noted that "investors look for the sectors for investment they are interested in."

"Some projects require large investments, so the volume of capital tends to increase," he added.
