State’s funds will not be misused: Finance Minister Mahat

KATHMANDU: Minister of Finance Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the nation's fund will not be misused. Clarifying the view of the Finance Ministry regarding the distribution of cash to unqualified fighters, Minister Mahat said that as a finance minister of the government, he will not allow misusing state funds, favouring some people, corruption, irregularities, scams or indiscriminate embezzlement of state funds. "I will work for the country and the people by rising above individuals and political parties," he said. He said, "The issue of ineligible fighters has been brought to the court for a long time, and a decision has been made from that." It has been arranged in the previous budget as well. Minister Mahat said, 'There has been a reference in the media to take this matter forward. This decision was not made when I became the finance minister. I was not aware of the progress of this matter. I don't know about passing the procedure and moving forward. Since I took the responsibility of Finance ministry,  no decision has been taken on this matter." "The Ministry of Home Affairs is responsible for making the working procedure and arranging the budget," he asserted. He  clarified that he and his ministry was not involved in giving money to fighters." He opined that issues related to the conflict should be resolved by the Truth Reconciliation Commission. Finance Minister Mahat said he was not aware of the fact that this matter has been finalised and decided by the Council of Ministers and that it will be taken forward. READ ALSO:
