KATHMANDU: Federation of Industries in Nepal Industrial Estate (FINIE) has concluded the 18th annual general meeting (AGM) and 10th general convention.
At the inaugural ceremony of the 18th AGM and 10th General Convention of FINIE, the industrialists said many industries in the industrial estate across the country have been facing crises due to unwanted external interference. They said local residents were encroaching on the industrial estate and political parties showing heinous behaviour while the local government and even the Industrial District Management were doing injustice to the industries.
Addressing the ceremony, Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) President Vishnu Kumar Agarwal mentioned that industrialists were being treated unfairly in the rent of land and buildings in industrial estate. He said various sectors were pressurising to shift the industrial estate that have been established a decade ago and suggested that the government should take a proper decision regarding this immediately. Further, he suggested that industrialists and the private sector should be encouraged by making an environment conducive to operating sustainably. He opined that the government should protect the industrialists by taking a clear view and decision on such issues.

Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Senior Vice President Anjan Shrestha opined that although the industrial estates were established in safe places away from the human settlements later the settlements that were established nearby have targeted the industries and industrialists.
In the programme, Bhaktapur Industrial District Industry Federation President Pawan Mittal accused the cadres of Nepal Workers Peasants Party (NWPP) of threatening to displace the industrialists in Bhaktapur Industrial District. He also alleged that Bhaktapur Metropolitan City was collecting high taxes under various pretexts.
On the occasion, FINIE President Ramhira Pathak argued that the Industrial District Management, which is supposed to promote industries, has become a profit-seeking body. He suggested that the industrial sector should be promoted by classifying the land and not allowing the development of settlements in the industrial estate. He also suggested that the rent of the industrial estate should be implemented based on scientific standards, and more investment should be made in the promotion and modernisation of the infrastructure of the industries. He urged Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Ramesh Rijal to instruct Industrial District Management to make such arrangements.
Chief guest at the programme, Minister Rijal, said that the government was serious about solving the problems seen in the industrial sector and was ready to provide the necessary support.
Minister Rijal criticised the Industrial District Management for depositing the amount to be spent on infrastructure development in the fixed deposit account of the bank for interest. He said that he directed the concerned officials to pay special attention to mobilise the amount.
Meanwhile, Minister Rijal said he will appoint a new general manager in the Industrial District Management soon. He informed that the new general manager will be given the responsibility of adding two new industrial estates. He asserted that he has given high priority to the construction of a new industrial estate in Shaktikhor in Chitwan.
On the occasion, Minister Rijal also inaugurated the FINIE's secretariat on the premises of Balaju Industrial District.
The general convention of the federation elected a new executive committee under the chairmanship of Ramhira Pathak. Other elected members of the committee include Ejaz Alam, Baburam Panta, Birendranath Bhattarai, Rajeshwar Lal Joshi, Sudip Ghimire, Kanchha Thapa and Suresh Kumar Shukla.
Likewise, FINIE President Pathak informed that officers of the federation will be elected in the next meeting.
