HNI to host int’l conference of home-based workers in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: An international conference of home-based workers (HBWs) will be held in Kathmandu from April 25 to 28. HomeNet International (HNI) is set to host HNI Congress 2023, the four-day conference that will bring together as many as 200 home-based workers from 39 countries. HomeNet South Asia regional coordinator Sristi Joshi Malla said workers from Asia, Africa and Latin America will attend the four-day programme. The conference will also showcase the productions of home-based workers on the occasion. Working papers on topics related to home-based workers will be presented at the conference which also aims to highlight the contributions of HBWs through a photo exhibition. The Homenet South Asia shared there were estimably over 67 million home-based workers with the majority of women in merely four South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan. Homenet South Asia is an association of HBWs across South Asia representing over 1.2 million HBWs. Of its members, 95% are women and 5% are men. The event participants will also make on-site visits to various organisations relating to HBWs in Nepal. These organisations additionally are involved in making clay pots, weaving Dhaka, producing embroidery, making toys and so on. The conference is viewed as a forum for sharing learnings and experiences among the HBWs. READ ALSO:
