
KATHMANDU: A discussion was held between the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) on the matter of collaboration and cooperation in reducing and managing disaster risks.
Azmat Ulla, Head of Delegation, IFRC, Nepal and the NDRRMA Executive Chief Anil Pokhrel held a talk on the matter on Thursday.
On the occasion, they stressed the need for increasing the efficacy of local levels in Nepal for the effective management of disasters.
Ulla informed about humanitarian services while Pokharel presented a report about the latest activities carried out by NDRRMA.
The IFRC has been carrying out various humanitarian assistance in Nepal through the Nepal Red Cross Society. Two months ago, it handed over 30 new ambulances and 15 upgraded ones to the Nepal Red Cross Society. It cost around 1.2 million Swiss Francs to purchase the ambulances, said the IFRC.
Similarly, it provided assistance during Covid 19 pandemic and earthquakes. It has continued to provide support to the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) for carrying out vaccination programmes in 22 districts of the country, it said.
More than 150,000 volunteers for the Red Cross Society have been engaged in social work across the country.
