KATHMANDU: Swostishree Gurukul Model United Nations (SGMUN) 4.0 concluded today after three days of intensive debate, collaboration and critical thinking among delegates from more than 30 schools and over 40 sponsors.

The event opened on July 4 with simulated UN sessions designed to deepen students’ understanding of pressing global issues. SGMUN 4.0 reaffirmed its commitment to intellectual, social and ethical development in line with its founding mission.

Chief guest and keynote speaker Prof Dr Samrat Thapa, Associate Professor and former Director of Asia Initiatives at the University of Lynchburg, was joined by special guest Unish Bikram Shahi Thakuri, an Under-19 cricketer and Karnali Yaks (NPL) player.

Dr Thapa praised participants: “This conference has brought together some of the most promising minds from across 30 schools. You have immersed yourselves in diplomacy, debate, dialogue and pressing global issues.”

He added that Model United Nations 'is far more than an extra-curricular activity; it develops skills that will help you throughout university and life, such as critical thinking, diplomacy and the confidence to speak up.'

Principal Neha KC delivered the vote of thanks, noting the participation of first-time MUN delegates. “Welcoming freshers alongside experienced delegates emphasises the school’s belief in communication as a vital skill and in MUN as its development platform,” she said.

The closing ceremony saw committee chairs announce winners in categories including Best Position Paper, Honorable Mention, Outstanding Delegate and Best Delegate. Tokens of appreciation were presented to chairs for their guidance throughout the conference.

Under the leadership of Secretary-General Adhish Binod Pokharel (Grade 12) and Deputy Secretary-General Zenith Karki (Grade 10), the organising committee upheld high standards. Swostishree Gurukul delegates have previously excelled at WIMUN in New York and at UN headquarters. SGMUN 4.0 not only celebrated individual achievement but also strengthened the school’s commitment to nurturing informed, engaged global voices.
