KATHMANDU: A delegation led by China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Chairman Chen Xiaodong paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today.
The meeting at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, covered bilateral relations, the understanding reached at the Ministry of Finance on Monday, and the implementation of development cooperation agreements previously signed during high-level visits, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat said.
Prime Minister Oli reiterated that Nepal and China share a long and friendly relationship and that Nepal is committed to the One China policy. He thanked the Chinese government for prioritising reconstruction of physical structures at the Rasuwagadhi border point damaged by recent floods, adding that the Nepali side had responded promptly. He emphasised that, to transform from landlocked to land-linked, the operation of Kimathanka and other transit points with China and projects under the Belt and Road Initiative should proceed without obstruction.
Present on the occasion were the prime minister’s Chief Adviser, Bishnu Prasad Rimal; Economic Development Adviser Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada; Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song; and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On Monday, the delegation met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel to discuss current and future projects supported by the Chinese government.
On the occasion, Nepal and China signed four memoranda of understanding (MoUs). Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyaya and CIDCA Chairman signed MoUs for a bone-marrow transplantation facility at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Chitwan, and for a feasibility study to expand Civil Service Hospital. A further MoU on human resource development will enable more than 1,200 government employees to attend bilateral and multilateral seminars organised by Chinese institutions.
