KATHMANDU: Swiss National Day was commemorated with a programme organised in Kathmandu on Friday.
Nepal Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industries (NSCCI) hosted the event, welcoming dignitaries, members, and guests from varied professional sectors.
The programme highlighted the enduring friendship and long-established diplomatic relations between Nepal and Switzerland.
Matthias Meier, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal, spoke on the occasion, referring to the recent visit to Nepal by Swiss Foreign Minister Dr Ignazio Cassis. The visit marked 69 years of diplomatic ties and laid the groundwork for next year’s 70th anniversary.
Addressing the gathering, NSCCI President Khem Lakai emphasised the strong economic, cultural and social ties that have developed over the decades. He noted the importance of the year 2026, which will signify the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries—a milestone reflecting a shared legacy of respect and cooperation.
President of the Nepal Swiss Friendship Society (NSFS), Rewant Prasad Dhaubhadel, also spoke, underscoring the need to build on historic links through continued engagement and closer people-to-people connections.
The occasion served as a platform for NSCCI members, Swiss alumni, business leaders and guests to network, exchange experiences and explore collaborative opportunities.
According to NSCCI sources, the commemoration was not only a celebration of Switzerland’s national heritage but a testament to the lasting partnership between Nepal and Switzerland.
The presence of leading diplomatic figures, prominent business personalities and members of the Nepal-Swiss community underscored the significance of ongoing cooperation across commerce, culture and friendship.
