KATHMANDU: Zaap EV has officially launched today, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban mobility in Nepal’s capital.

From today, users can visit the company’s website to enrol for membership and complete KYC checks, securing early access to the country’s first women-focused, sustainability-driven electric two-wheeled rental service.

Operations are slated to begin in mid-September, offering an affordable, eco-friendly alternative for daily commutes, gig work and student travel.

Dr Sudeep Rauniar, Managing Director of Zaap EV, said the initiative goes beyond vehicle rental. “Zaap EV is more than just a rental service—it’s about bridging the gap between gig workers, students and affordable rides,” he said. “We are creating a model that is not only sustainable for the environment but also economically empowering for the people who need mobility the most.”

Anukool Bhatnagar, Senior Adviser at Zaap EV, emphasised Kathmandu’s growing demand for green transport. “The need for affordable and eco-friendly ride options is rising every day. Zaap EV has the potential to be a building block in shaping the city’s green mobility future,” he said.

With a fleet of electric scooters, a rapidly expanding battery-swapping network and a strong focus on accessibility, Zaap EV aims to set a new standard for clean, cost-effective transport in Nepal.

US-based technology tycoon LeapFrog Technology has extended its support to the Kathmandu-based startup, underscoring international confidence in the venture’s vision.
