KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his best wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity to all Nepalis on the occasion of Jitiya Parva.
In a message of greetings, President Paudel expressed his confidence that unique festivals such as Jitiya contribute to maintaining and promoting social unity and goodwill in the country.
He also noted that festivals like Jitiya have helped to uphold the distinct identities of Nepal’s many ethnic, linguistic, religious and cultural communities, fostering mutual respect, goodwill and tolerance by preserving the country’s diversity.
Jitiya is celebrated by women, especially in the Tharu and Madhesi communities, who pray for the good health and longevity of their children and families.

The festival falls on the seventh, eighth and ninth days of the waning moon (Krishna Paksha) in the month of Ashwin in the lunar calendar.
On this occasion, women devotees bathe in nearby rivers, ponds or lakes and make offerings to Lord Jitmahan and their departed ancestors.
