Finance Minister Khanal assumes office, forms taskforce on budget implementation

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Rameshwore Prasad Khanal assumed office today after taking the oath of office and secrecy.

Khanal has formed a three-member taskforce under the coordination of the Chief of the Budget Division at the Ministry to prioritise projects for effective budget implementation.

The minister has decided not to implement projects that are not included in the budget and that lack adequate preparation. Projects of insignificant value will not be implemented, Khanal added.

“Now we are burdened with holding elections and addressing the demands of young people, so unnecessary budgetary allocations will be slashed,” he said.

Suggestions from the high-level Economic Reform Commission will also be heeded, Khanal added.
