
KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to four newly appointed ministers at Shital Niwas, the Office of the President, today.
Newly appointed ministers Anil Kumar Sinha, Mahabir Pun, Madan Kumar Pariyar and Jagdish Kharel were sworn in at the ceremony.
Minister Sinha has been given responsibility for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies; the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; and the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation. Minister Pun has been handed the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology; Minister Pariyar the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development; and Minister Kharel the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, House Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire and National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal attended the oath-taking ceremony, alongside heads and officials of constitutional bodies, senior government figures and security-agency representatives.
President Paudel appointed the ministers on Sunday on the recommendation of interim government prime minister Karki. Minister Sinha, who has a legal background, is a former justice of the Supreme Court. Minister Pun, celebrated for expanding wireless internet service in remote areas, is chairperson of the National Innovation Center. Minister Pariyar is an agricultural expert, while Minister Kharel is a senior journalist.
In the current Council of Ministers, Rameshore Prasad Khanal was given the Ministry of Finance; Kul Man Ghising the ministries of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development; and Om Prakash Aryal the Ministry of Home Affairs on September 15. The remaining portfolios are being handled by Prime Minister Karki herself.
Amidst the Gen-Z protest and the ensuing turmoil, President Paudel appointed former Chief Justice Karki as interim government prime minister on September 12.
