
KATHMANDU: The government has declared Ilam a landslide- and flood-hit district.
A cabinet meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) in Singha Durbar on Thursday took the decision, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, said.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 39 people lost their lives in Ilam district as a result of recent landslides and floods. One person is missing, and 26 others were injured in the incidents. The landslides and floods caused extensive damage to the district’s road network.
The government granted permission to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to issue an energy bond worth Rs 20 billion to raise funds for the construction of hydropower projects.
The cabinet approved the promotion of Deputy Inspector-Generals of Nepal Police Sushil Singh Rathore, Uma Prasad Chaturbedi, Himalaya Kumar Shrestha and Dambar Bahadur Bishwokarma to the rank of Additional Inspector-Generals (AIGs).
The meeting also dissolved the Land Problem Settlement Commission formed under the Land Problem Settlement Commission Formation Order, 2081 BS, and dissolved district committees in all districts.
The cabinet forwarded a report by a committee tasked with tracing land and movable assets registered in the name of Tribhuvan University to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for implementation, and sent a report by the High-Level Study and Investigation Committee-2082, formed to address problems related to immigration and visitor visas, to the Ministry of Home Affairs for implementation.
Minister Kharel said a decision was taken to send a report submitted by a high-level study and suggestion committee on reforming the civil aviation sector to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation for implementation.
