KATHMANDU: Remittance inflows into Nepal rose 33.1% to Rs 352.08 billion in the first two months of fiscal year 2025/26, compared with a 15.8% rise in the same period last year.
The increase reflects stronger transfers from Nepali workers abroad and currency movements that boosted the rupee value of inflows.
During mid‑August to mid‑September, remittances reached Rs 174.67 billion, up from Rs 127.99 billion a year earlier, according to the latest macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Tuesday.
In US dollar terms, remittance receipts rose 27.6% to 2.52 billion, against 14.2% increase in the corresponding period last year.
Net secondary income climbed to Rs 384.88 billion from Rs 287.76 billion a year earlier, strengthening support for the country’s balance of payments.
Approvals for foreign employment rose to 90,198 first‑time permits and 45,884 re‑entry permits, from 76,485 and 40,583, respectively, signalling expanding labour migration that is sustaining remittance growth.
The combined gains in remittances, dollar inflows, net transfers and employment approvals point to robust external earnings early in current fiscal year, supporting external stability and domestic consumption.
