KATHMANDU: Nepal Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ) delivered a report titled "Roadmap of the economy after the Gen‑Z movement" to the government on Saturday.
The document, which examines the economic impact of destruction during the Gen‑Z protest demonstrations across the country on September 8 and 9, was presented to Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal by NAFIJ President Menuka Karki.
Karki said the economy, which had been on a path to recovery following the earthquake, blockade and Covid19 pandemic, suffered further setbacks because of disruptions during the Gen‑Z protests and stressed the urgent need for substantial resources to address the damage.
Finance Minister Khanal said that if losses from the protests are not covered by insurance or the financial system, the government will step in to provide necessary assistance.
He added that the government is compiling official data on the damage and that, once losses are quantified, support will be extended to affected businesses.
