KATHMANDU: Nepal has stressed the need for a glorious journey towards building a prosperous society and sustaining development as Least Developed Countries are transformed into developing countries. Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai said this at a high-level discussion on Thursday.
Speaking as Chair of the LDC Group, Rai emphasised the importance of extending financial and integrated assistance to the LDCs to support that transition.
The meeting, organised in Doha by the Office of the United Nations High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States and the Qatar Fund, focused on building a global partnership for the sustainable development of Least Developed Countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting, the Foreign Secretary met Deodat Maharaj, Managing Director of the United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries, and conveyed Nepal’s expectation of support from the bank to facilitate Nepal’s journey from a least developed to a developing country.
On that occasion, they also discussed the bank's role and opportunities for cooperation.
