LALITPUR: Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav has called for greater collaboration and coordination between the government and the private sector to drive the country’s development.

Speaking at the Gorkhapatra Discourse programme, organised by Gorkhapatra Corporation in coordination with Gorkhapatra Academy to increase dialogue with the private sector on sustainable economic development, he said it was positive to debate Nepal’s economic resilience, investment‑related issues, future development strategy, smart infrastructure development and management, and the confidence of the private sector through the forum.

“I am optimistic that the debate and discussion will come to a concrete conclusion by analysing the country’s overall economic situation, challenges and possibilities as well as the government’s efforts and the private sector’s expectations. I hope it will also discuss issues including the Nepali economy and policy reforms following the Gen‑Z Uprising,” the Vice President said.

He underlined the need for the government and the private sector to move ahead in tandem, and said the Gen‑Z movement had been waged with demands including transparency, good governance, a corruption‑free society, easier public service delivery and the creation of employment opportunities within the country. He expressed confidence that the Gorkhapatra discourse would be instrumental in charting the future course of action after the movement.

“Gorkhapatra is a living document of history,” he added, saying its contributions were important in strengthening national unity.

The Vice President emphasised the need to mobilise capital sitting in banks and financial institutions for economic development and expressed confidence that increased investment in agriculture and tourism would help to spur the economy.

He also urged that journalism should carry the voices of the people to the policy‑making level. “The private sector is the enabler of the economy. Journalism should contribute in a way that elevates the people’s voice to the policy level,” he emphasised.

He called for the creation of a shared forum of the private sector, experts, policy‑makers and stakeholders for high‑level national debate on economic restoration, the investment environment and future development strategies.
