KATHMANDU: inDrive, a global mobility and delivery platform, has announced a Rs 2.2 million fuel support initiative for its driver‑partners in Nepal.
The move comes as rising fuel prices and cost‑of‑living pressures squeeze driver earnings and passenger affordability across the country.
The company said the fund, which will take effect on April 15, 2026, will be distributed based on driver activity and performance metrics so that those who rely most on the platform receive targeted financial assistance. inDrive said the measure is an immediate, market‑responsive step to help drivers cope with higher operating costs without passing additional burdens onto passengers.
As Nepal’s ride‑hailing sector expands, thousands of drivers depend on platform work for their livelihoods while commuters seek affordable transport. inDrive said recent increases in fuel costs have created a 'dual challenge' of protecting driver incomes and keeping fares accessible for riders.
Complementing the fuel support, inDrive said it is continuing measures to strengthen driver earnings and autonomy, including reduced commissions on selected rides and performance‑based incentives to reward active participation. The company noted that its global commission structure remains among the lowest in the industry and highlighted its peer‑to‑peer model, which allows drivers and passengers to negotiate fares directly.
“Rising fuel costs directly affect our driver partners, many of whom rely on daily trips as their primary source of income,” said Sunita Jeemi Rai, Senior Driver Operations Specialist, inDrive Nepal. “We believe platforms like ours have a responsibility to introduce practical, immediate solutions while continuing to build a system that is fair for both drivers and passengers.”
inDrive said it will continue to monitor market conditions and work with driver communities, partners and stakeholders to adapt its initiatives for long‑term sustainability. “At the heart of our platform is fairness,” Rai added. “By supporting drivers while keeping rides accessible, we aim to build a resilient mobility ecosystem that works for everyone.”
inDrive is a global mobility and delivery platform operating in more than 1,000 cities across 48 countries. The company offers ride‑hailing, intercity transportation, delivery and financial services, and says its app has been downloaded over 400 million times.
