KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) owes a total of Rs 55.47 billion to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Citizen Investment Trust (CIT), the Office of the Auditor General has reported.
The amount, which includes principal and interest, was disclosed in the Office of the Auditor General’s 63rd annual report. The loans were taken to purchase Airbus aircraft.
NAC borrowed Rs 22 billion from the EPF in 2013 to acquire A-320 aircraft and Rs 12 billion from the CIT in 2018 for A-330 purchases. The outstanding balances are now Rs 31.33 billion to the EPF and Rs 21.12 billion to the CIT.
Both loans were secured under government guarantees.
