NA members slam alleged change in tax rates in budget, demand probe

KATHMANDU: Members in the National Assembly (NA) have alleged that tax rates were altered in the budget speech for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27, demanding an investigation into the matter. 

Taking time in a session of the Upper House on Tuesday, they demanded the formation of a committee to probe the allegations. 

Lawmaker Tul Prasad Bishwakarama said media reports have claimed that 16 pages were removed from the Finance Bill 2083 within 24 hours of its presentation in parliament and that a revised version was subsequently issued. He demanded a thorough investigation into the matter with its clarification. 

Renu Chand accused the role of Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle in such changes, seeking an investigation into it. 

Similarly, Narayan Datta Mishra and Meena Singh Rakhal demanded replies from Prime Minister Balendra Shah regarding his statement on Nepal-India relations.

The NA shall meet again at 1:00 pm on Thursday.
